VERNON NEVILLE SAWYER

Born: 1915, Ipswich.

Died: 27th May 1944; age 28; KiA.

Residence: Brig-y-don, 15, Bucklesham Road, Ipswich.

 

In 1939, Vernon joined the Territorial Army, and served in France, and went through the Dunkirk retirement. He subsequently saw service in Africa, and was wounded in Tunisia, and took part in the hectic campaign which freed Rome.

Regiment: Royal Artillery, 58 Medium Regiment.

Father: Albert Robert Sawyer, born 1882, Ipswich – a Royal Navy Seaman – Storeman.

Mother: Elizabeth Annie Sawyer (nee Woods), 1885, Ipswich.

 

Vernon was a member of the St. John Ambulance and served in the First Air Duties Division.

 

Probate to Albert Sawyer, a Storeman.

 

Vernon is also remembered on the war memorial at St. Augustine of Hippo, Ipswich.
