Father: Lionel Roy McColvin C.B.E., born November 1896, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland. A Chief Librarian and Author.

Mother: Mary Carter.

 

Lionel Roy McColvin C.B.E. was the son of John Andrew McColvin, a Portrait Artist. Lionel started his career at Croydon Library. He became Chief Librarian of Ipswich 1924 – 1931, then Hampstead Library 1931 – 1938 and on to Westminster Library 1938 – 1961. He was also a prolific author, writing inspiring and creative reports, essays and books about libraries and how to use them.
