JAMES RICHARD COOTE

 

Born: 1920, Ipswich.

Died: at 7 p.m., 31st January 1941; age: 20; of Generalised Peritonitis for 7 days, a Paralytic Ileus and a Perforated Gangrenous Appendicitis, at the Peel Hospital, Clovenfords, Scottish Borders. His father Richard Coote, an Omnibus Regulator, of 33, Allenby Road, Ipswich was present at the death.

Residence: 33, Allenby Road, Ipswich.

Occupation: a French Polisher.

 

Rank: Private; Service Number: 5828170.

Regiment: Suffolk Regiment, 4th Battalion – Infantry.

Nephew to JAMES COOTE.

Father: Richard Coote, D.C.M., born November 1891, Alnwick, Northumberland. An Omnibus Regulator.

Richard served 9 years & 41 days in the Sherwood Foresters. He distinguished himself in the field of battle, during the First World War and awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. During combat he was severely wounded and his arm amputated. On his return to Ipswich he was offered the freedom of the borough.

Mother: Bessie Rosanna Coote (nee Silvester (1st marriage Fudge)), born April 1893, Ipswich. Richard and Bessie married in April 1920. Bessie’s first husband had died of influenza in December 1918, leaving her with two children. She and Richard would have 11 more children.
