Frederick’s father was Walter Bardwell, born June 1847, St. Mary at Elms, Ipswich – died 1885, Ipswich. A Carpenter & Joiner.

Frederick’s nephew, Archibald William Bardwell, lost his life in the Second World War. Son of Frederick’s brother, William Henry Bardwell. Archibald died as a Japanese PoW, aged 28, on the 13th October 1944, at Taiwan. He was a Private, service number 5831074, of the 2nd Battalion, of the Cambridgeshire Regiment. Archibald was laid to rest at Sai Wan War Cemetery, Chai Wan, China (including Hong Kong).
