Died: 30th May 1940; age: 20, during the evacuation and defence of Dunkirk.

Coxyde Military Cemetery,

West-Vlaanderen,

Belgium.

The original wooden cross of his grave in Belgium. The photo was sent to Edward’s mother soon after his death. The cross was later replaced with a CWGC Portland stone headstone. 

Relatives Notified & Address: Son of Ernest & Kathleen Mayhew, of Ipswich.

 

Father: Ernest Mayhew, born July 1896, Earls Colne, Essex.

Mother: Kathleen Elizabeth Mayhew (nee Jermy), born April 1895, Ranworth, Norfolk.

Edward outside his home in Ipswich.

 

Probate to Kathleen Elizabeth Mayhew – mother.

 

Edward is also remembered on the war memorial at St. Augustine of Hippo, Ipswich.
