Father: James Mathews, born April 1884, Ballingdon cum Brundon, Essex. A Carman – London North Eastern Railway.

Mother: Ada Olive Rose Mathews (nee Vincent), born 1890, Ipswich – died 1919, Ipswich.

Step mother: Mabel Lilian Mathews (nee Hembury), born March 1891, Dalston, London.

 

Charles is also remembered on the war memorial at St. Augustine of Hippo, Ipswich.

September 1939. Devonport.8th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Division.
October 1939 They went to France.
May/June 1940 The Battalion were evacuated from Dunkirk and returned to the UK.
