Born: 28th February 1908, Nedging, Suffolk.

Died: 28th December 1943; age: 35; of Pellagra & Dysentery at Tambaya Hospital, Burma – Japanese PoW – Thailand/Burma Railway.

Residence and place of employment: Middleton Estate, Rompin, Negeri Semilan, Malay.

Residence in England: Red House, Creeting St. Mary, Suffolk.

Regiment: Federated Malay States Volunteers 3rd (Negri Sembilan) Battalion.

William attended Ipswich School – left the school in 1926. He gained a M.A. at Cambridge.

 

Probate to Harry Turner Long – maternal uncle. A Farmer.

 

On the 29th July 1938, William departed England on the S.S.’Carthage’ of the P&O Steam Navigation Company, bound for Yokohama, Japan. William travelled 2nd Class, his destination was Singapore. He was 30 years old, of Prospect House, Nedging, his intended permanent residence was Malaya, to be a Rubber Planter.

 

William is also remembered on the Ipswich School Chapel war memorial.
