Stanley attended and is remembered Northgate High School Memorial. Formerly Ipswich Grammar School for Boys.

 

 

Born: 6th August 1890, Great Clacton, Essex.

Died: 11th August 1916; age: 26; from Gun Shot Wounds to chest and spine received at Ypres – 22nd June 1916, died at the 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth.

Residence: Ontario, Canada.

Occupation: Mechanical Engineer.

Enlistment details: Location: Niagara Camp, Ontario; Date: 29th May 1915; age: 24; Religion: Presbyterian. Signed up for the Duration of the War. Height: 5ft 8ins, medium complexion, brown eyes & brown hair. Next of Kin: father- Frederick Hicks, of Ackworth, East Bergholt, Suffolk.

Joined on enlistment – 37th Battalion.

Embarked Montreal aboard S.S. ‘Hesperian’ on the 10th June 1915 to Plymouth, England.

Transferred to the 17th Battalion – 20th June 1915.

Transferred to the 15th Battalion – 16th July 1915.

Granted 7 days leave – 20th January 1916.

Rank of Sergeant confirmed – 10th June 1916.

Gun Shot Wound to chest and spine – 22nd June 1916.

To No. 18 General Hospital Camiers – seriously ill.

Transferred to Canadian Casualty Assembly Centre 30th June 1916 – and on to H.S. ‘Newhaven’ arriving at Folkstone, England – 1st July 1916.

1st July 1916 – 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth – dangerously ill.
