  • My father, Thomas Gerard Murphy B.E.M. carved the Ipswich War Memorial as an apprentice under the supervision of a Mr Hall and Mr Mowbray in 1920-22. I believe he was apprenticed to the Cheltenham firm of Mostyn & Sons Ltd,Monumental Sculptors in Wood and Stone. He was attending the Kennington School of Art part time whilst employed on this work in Christchurch Park.Have you any corroborating evidence to substatiate this claim as I am compiling a record of my father’s work
prior to his appointment as Senior Carver at Liverpool Anglian Cathedral in 1934/5?
