In 1924, Ipswich, Robert married Doris May Barnes, born December 1906, Ipswich – daughter of James Thomas Barnes, a saw mill labourer and Florence Barnes (nee Whiting), of 13, Alston Road, Ipswich.

Doris and Robert had four children.
