REGINALD ALBERT DEAN

Born: 18th September 1919, Ipswich.

Died: 24th June 1943; age 24; died of Cholera as a Japanese PoW – Thailand/Burma Railway.

Captured: 15th February 1942 – Fall of Singapore.

Residence: 20, White Elm Street, Ipswich.

Occupation: Carpenter.

 

Rank: Corporal; Service Number: 7344310.

Regiment: Royal Army Medical Corps, 196 Field Ambulance.

 

Originally buried at Kanyu Camp No. 2, Grave 15. Body later exhumed, identified by records, and reburied between 11th March – 2nd April 1946.

Father: George Robert Dean, born 1881, Great Wakering, Essex – died 1927, Ipswich.

Mother: Helena Elizabeth Dean (nee Abbott (1st marriage Grimwood)), born 1893, Ipswich.

 

In 1941, Ipswich, Reginald married Irene Doris May Lankester, a tailoress, born March 1913, Ipswich – daughter of Higham George Lankester, a permanent way labourer, and Florence May Lankester (nee Boon), an office cleaner, of 10, White Elm Street, Ipswich.

They had 1 daughter.

 

Reginald is also remembered on the war memorial at Holy Trinity Church, Ipswich.
