Mother: Grace Mildred Thurkettle, born August 1902, Ipswich.

In 1942, Ipswich, Harry married Jean Y. S. Waspe, born August 1920, Ipswich, of 4, Orchard Street, Ipswich. A Cafe Waitress.

They had 1 daughter.

 

The 2nd Battalion, from 1940, spent two years on home defense in the UK, following its evacuation from Dunkirk in 1940 with the BEF.

The battalion served in North Africa with the “10th Infinitary Brigade”, from the 25/3/1943 – 15/12/1943, the Tunisia Campaign.  Egypt, 23/3/1943 – 13/12/1943.  Italy 21/2/1944 – 11/12/1944. fighting its way north on the East coast against the remnants of the Italian Army and the German Armies, defensive positions known as the Trasimene, Arezzo, Arno and Gothic Lines.
