Born: 1926, Lexden, Essex.

Died: 24th March 1945; age 18; KiA in a daylight parachute drop during Operation: Varsity.

Residence: 71, Westholme Road, Ipswich.

Employed: as an Apprentice at the International Stores, Westgate Street, Ipswich.

Trained at RAF Ringway 24th January to the the 8th February 1945 – where Godfrey was the best pupil in his section.

Rank: Private; Service Number: 14823878.

Regiment: Parachute Regiment Army Air Corps, (2/4th Battalion. The South Lancashire Regiment(Prince of Wales Volunteers)).

Formerly a Corporal – A.T.C – before joining the Suffolk Regiment  – Godfrey was later transferred to the Parachute Regiment.

The body was originally buried in a field at Haminkeln, Germany. On the 12^th November 1946, the body was exhumed, identified, and reburied at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery – Airborne Extension.
