ERIC EDWARD SHEPPARD

Born: 1922, Ipswich.
Died: 23rd July 1941; age: 19; Fracture of the base of the skull sustained when riding a motor cycle on the London Road, Bourton-on-the-Hill, Gloucestershire. He accidently collided with cattle on the highway.
No Post Mortem.
Inquest held on the 25th July & 1st August 1941.
Residence: ‘Brookwood’ 337, Main Road, Martlesham, Suffolk.
Occupation: Joiner’s Assistant.
Based at Royal Air Force Aerodrome, Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire.
Rank: Aircraftman 2nd Class; Service Number: 959339.
Regiment: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

Mother: Edith Maud Sheppard (nee Gayfer), born 1898, Ipswich.
A memorial flower vase was later placed on Eric’s grave – To Eric a token of our remembrance from his comrades.

This was my Great Uncle, my Grandmum’s younger brother. She was very close to him not much older than him. She named her firstborn, my father, after him. Eric Wayne Welch, born there in Ipswich July 5, 1944.
