WHITEHAVEN SOLDIER’S RESCUE
A Whitehaven soldier, Driver Edward McConvey, aged 21, has rescued an evacuee boy from a perilous position on the cliffs at Ilfracombe.
The boy, Victor Smith, became stuck because the tide had come in.
McConvey was lowered on a rope and reached the boy in the nick of time for he was well nigh exhausted and would soon have slipped into the water.
