Father: Alonzo William Balaam, born September 1898, Ipswich. A bricklayer. During the Second World War Alonzo was an Air Raid Precautions Warden – part time.

Mother: Hilda May Balaam (nee Butler), born 1900, Ipswich – died 1937, Ipswich.


 The first 8th Battalion landed in Normandy in June 1944, fighting their way through France.
