Born: 1871, Stonham Aspal, Suffolk.

Died: 11th April 1902; age: 31; KiA at the Battle of Rooiwal, Gauteng, South Africa.

Enlistment Date: 17th October 1889.

Occupation: Agricultural Labourer.

 

Rank: Gunner; Service Number: 75325.

Regiment: Royal Field Artillery, 78th Battery, South Africa Field Force.

 

Clasps & Medals Awarded: Cape Colony, Orange Free State & Transvaal + South Africa 1901 medal & South Africa 1902 medal.

 

Brother to JAMES LAST and Uncle to ALBERT STANLEY SMITH.

Charles was 19 years old, a Soldier ranked a Gunner for the Royal Artillery.

 

Soldiers’ Effects to Samuel Last – father.

Charles & James’s brother, Edward Samuel Last was KiA, on the 23rd August 1917. Edward was ranked a Private, service number 27296, for the Somerset Light Infantry, 6th Battalion. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Edward was 37 years old, married with 3 children.
