Born: Arthur recorded his birth date as the 5th December 1880, Parham, Suffolk.

Baptised: 19th October 1879, at St. Mary the Virgin Church, Parham, with his brother, Walter Howlett – family home at Parham.

Died: for official purposes presumed reported to have died: 18th November 1916; age 36; KiA – at the attack on Desire Trench, Courcelette.

Residence: Cuffley, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Occupation: a Homestead Farmer.

Enlistment Details: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; Date: 15th September 1915; Age: 34 years & 9 months; Religion: CofE. Height: 5ft & 5ins, fair complexion, blue eyes & fair hair. Next of kin – father, Robert Howlett, of Bishops Hill, Ipswich.

Embarked from Canada on the 20^th June 1916.

Disembarked in England on the 29^th June 1916.

Transferred to the 46^th Battalion.

Proceeded Overseas for Service with the 46^th Battalion, effective 10^th August 1916.

Disembarked in France – Havre – 11^th August 1916.

On the 8^th October 1916, Arthur was sentenced to 10 days Field Punishment Number One for “Hesitating to obey an order.”

Missing after action – 18^th November 1916.

Arthur’s medals were sent to his brother, William James Howlett, of 59, Back Hamlet, Ipswich. The plaque, which was dispatched on the 6^th September 1920, and the scroll, which was dispatched on the 1^st May 1920, were sent to his father, Robert Howlett, of Bishops Hill, Ipswich.

Arthur is also remembered on the war memorial at Holy Trinity Church, Ipswich.
