ALDER HEFFILL FISHER

Alder is not remembered on the war memorial at Christchurch Park.

Born: 1879, Ipswich.

Died: 1st July 1916; age: 38; KiA.

Residence: South Africa.

Occupation: a Book Keeper.

 

Alder served with the British South Africa Police for 6 years. During the South African Campaign he was ranked a Corporal, of the II Division, Bulawayo, service number 869. He was awarded the South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902 medals – issued 1st April 1903 + Rhode clasp.

 

Alder left South Africa to enlist in England

 

Embarked Port of Cape Town, sailed 2nd Class aboard Royal Mail Ship ‘Llandoveby Castle’ of The Union-Castle Mail Steamship Company Limited. He was 37 years old and a Book Keeper. Disembarked at the Port of Plymouth 8th October 1915.

 

Enlistment: 1st November 1915; age 39; religion: CofE. Signed up for the Duration of the War. Height: 5ft 7 1/2ins. Next of Kin: Charles Fisher – father, of The Firs, Weybread, Harleston, Norfolk.

 

Joined at Winchester: 15th November 1915.

 

Embarked 31st December 1915

Disembarked France 1st January 1916.

Arrived at the Front 6th January 1916.

Joined 2nd Battalion 8th January 1916.

 

Rank: Rifleman; Service Number: R/16614.

Regiment: King’s Royal Rifle Corps, 2nd Battalion.
